USB to TTL PL2303 is the cheapest device but it’s very useful if you wanna communicate to your micro controller, such as ATmega and Arduino. Especially for Arduino pro mini, this device will be the main device and should be there to program the chip. Other typesΒ of arduino board, like arduino uno, mega, or anything that have USB port may be don’t need this one. But, if we want to use arduino pro mini that has small size, you need to have this device to connect your arduino to PC.

I started to try this device about 3 years ago. And I don’t have any problem when I use it on windows 7 Operating System. And now, when I use windows 10, I don’t know why it can’t. Looking for this issue from the official website wasn’t help.

Figure 1. Device Manager Window

I almost give up to search the solution fo this issue and make me switch my Operating System to Arch Linux or Ubuntu. When I tried it at Ubuntu and Arch Linux, it didn’t need driver installer and Operating System could read this device and ready to use when it plug in. Wahaha, it’s like Arch Linux slogan, “MISS->Make it Simple, Stupid!”. πŸ˜€

However, can not be denied that using windows operating system still be our need for today. Compatibility with commonly used software is the main reason until nowadays. And finally, after a long hunt, I found a youtube video that I have attached below. It’s work well for me. It turn out, the problem is latest version of driver is’t support windows 10 for this type of chip.

And now I want to share you step that I used to solve this issue.

  1. Open device manager, you can use star menu and just search “device manager”.
  2. On the device manager window you will see yellow warning sign on “prolific USB to Serial Common Port”. If you warning sign isn’t there. You can leave this page because your issue has been resolved. πŸ˜€ Look at Figure 1. Just right click on the icon and enter properties window to see current status on this device.

You can look at Figure 2 that device cannot start because of error code 10. If you have another error code, this method may not useful fo

  3. So, now if our issue is similar. You need to download old driver for this device. I have tried using driver release on 2009, 2010 and 2013. Unfortunately, all of that didn’t work. At last, I found driver with driver release on 2008 and it make it all great resolved. πŸ™‚ You can download this driver by this link :

if you have somethink trouble to above link, kindly comment on this post. πŸ™‚
  4. You can just install the driver after extract from the zip folder. After you install by run the execution file, it may not be resolved directly, because your PC still choose the latest version of driver. So, you need to update manually by right click on the yellow warning icon on device manager–>update driver software–>Choose “Browse my computer…”

    and then,
